Child Safety
Marlin Academy Childcare, like all early years' services in Ireland, operates under a robust framework of child safety regulations designed to ensure the utmost protection and well-being of every child. This commitment is deeply embedded in their operational policies, guided by the Child Care Act 1991 (Early Years Services) Regulations 2016 and the overarching Children First Act 2015 and Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and Welfare of Children 2017. These legislative and national guidelines mandate a comprehensive approach to safeguarding, covering everything from staff recruitment and training to facility safety and incident management.
Central to Marlin Academy's child safety policy would be the Child Safeguarding Statement, a legally required document that outlines the specific services provided and the principles and procedures adhered to, to ensure children are safe from harm. This statement includes a thorough risk assessment, identifying potential risks of harm to children and detailing the measures in place to mitigate these risks. Parents and guardians should be able to easily access this statement, as well as information on key procedures such as those for managing behaviour, administering medication, fire safety, and the vital protocol for the authorisation of individuals collecting children.
Furthermore, a critical element of child safety within Marlin Academy's framework would be the stringent recruitment and vetting processes for all staff, including employees, volunteers, and contractors. This involves mandatory Garda Vetting (the Irish national vetting service) for anyone who will have access to children, alongside comprehensive background checks and reference verification. Staff are also required to undergo regular training on child protection and welfare, including the Children First E-Learning Programme, ensuring they are equipped to recognise and respond to any concerns about a child's safety or welfare. The presence of a Designated Liaison Person (DLP) is also paramount, serving as a key point of contact for child protection concerns and ensuring prompt reporting to Tusla, the Child and Family Agency, or An Garda Síochána when necessary.
